Mark 8:1-10

The feeding of the four thousand in a 'deserted place' (v.4) reprises the manna narrative: God satisfies a hungry multitude with bread in the wilderness. Volume is high via the desert setting and the disciples' incredulous 'from where' question, which echoes Israel's manna astonishment ('What is it?'). Mark's wilderness feedings deliberately retell the Exodus provision in messianic key.

The manna in the wilderness: God feeds a vast multitude in a 'deserted place' (Mt 15:33) where there is nothing to eat, and all 'ate and were filled' (15:37). The feeding of the four thousand is patterned on the wilderness provision.
