Paul's 'God's wisdom in a mystery (mysterion), hidden, foreordained before the ages' (vv.7) is steeped in Daniel's Aramaic hymn praising God 'to whom belong wisdom and might,' who 'reveals deep and hidden things.' Daniel is the Septuagintal seedbed for mysterion as divinely hidden-then-revealed knowledge, giving strong coherence with Paul's whole argument; the cluster of wisdom + mystery + revelation supplies recurrence.
