Jeremiah 17:10

'I the LORD search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways' ascribes heart-searching to YHWH alone; John applies this to Jesus, who 'knew everyone' and needed no testimony about man. Coherence is high within John's high Christology; the divine heart-searcher motif is the operative background.

"I am he who searches the minds and hearts. I will give to each one of you according to your deeds" fuses the divine self-predication of Jer 17:10 with its recompense clause.
