Allusion2

A deliberate verbal borrowing without a citation formula.

Heb 11:8–22

‘As innumerable as the sand which is by the sea shore’ (v. 12) completes the doubled ‘stars and sand’ formula of Gen 22:17 — the oath sworn at the binding. Already quoted at Heb 6:13–14, so the recurrence test is satisfied across the letter.

High confidence
Rev 20:7–10

'as the sand which is upon the sea shore' (LXX hōs hē ammos hē para to cheilos tēs thalassēs) — innumerable-as-the-sand idiom for the gathered army. Also Josh 11:4; 1 Sam 13:5 use it of hostile hosts; Hays: stock biblical idiom for countless multitude.

High confidence

Echo2

A fainter, low-volume reuse, carried by recurrence or thematic coherence.

Luke 1:51-56

'And his seed forever' also recalls the oath at the Aqedah, 'I will surely multiply your offspring' (Genesis 22:17), the same sworn promise the Benedictus names explicitly at 1:73. A coherent supporting echo binding Magnificat and Benedictus.

Medium confidence
Rom 9:19-29

'As the sand of the sea' (v.27) verbally re-sounds the Abrahamic promise that the seed would be as numberless as the sand; Paul ironically juxtaposes the vast promised multitude with the saved remnant.

Medium confidence

Figural1

A typological pattern re-read in a later text — no verbal quotation, high figural coherence.

John 8:31-47

The dispute turns on being 'Abraham's seed,' invoking the patriarchal promise that Abraham's offspring would be multiplied. High Coherence: Jesus concedes physical descent (sperma) but redefines true sonship by deeds, pressing the gap between biological seed and genuine children of Abraham.
