That the promise runs ‘through Isaac’ is what makes the command to sacrifice Isaac the supreme test — and the ground for the inference that God ‘is able to raise up even from the dead.’ The surrounding narrative (the tents, the binding, Jacob worshiping on his staff at Gen 47:31 LXX) is woven in as allusion.
