Allusion2

A deliberate verbal borrowing without a citation formula.

1 Tim 5:9-10

The enrolled widow commended for having 'washed the saints' feet' evokes Abraham's hospitality, where water is brought to wash the feet of the visiting strangers. Foot-washing as a token of welcome to guests reaches back to the patriarchal ideal of hospitality.

Medium confidence
John 13:4-11

Abraham's 'let a little water be brought and wash your feet' establishes footwashing as the host's act of hospitality, here inverted so the Lord performs the servant's task. The image is the closest patriarchal antecedent and coheres with John's reversal of status. Recurrence of the motif across Genesis strengthens availability.

Echo2

A fainter, low-volume reuse, carried by recurrence or thematic coherence.

Luke 7:36-50 ?

Jesus' rebuke that Simon gave no water for his feet invokes the ancient Near Eastern duty of hospitality typified by Abraham washing the feet of his guests at Mamre. The omitted courtesies (water, kiss, oil) are measured against this hospitality norm, making the echo coherent though not a targeted allusion.

Low confidence
Luke 9:1-6 ?

Washing the dust of a place from the feet recalls the ancient hospitality of footwashing (Abraham to the three visitors); refusal of hospitality is symmetrically answered by dust-shaking. The connection is thematic and faint, hence contested.
