Luke 2:39-40

'The child was growing, and was becoming strong... filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him' closely follows the boy Samuel who 'continued to grow... in favor with the LORD and with men.' The growth-and-favor formula is verbally and structurally parallel, and recurs at v. 52, giving strong recurrence within the chapter.

Luke 2:41-52

The closing 'Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men' restates Samuel's growth 'in favor with the LORD and with men,' an inclusio with v. 40. Strong verbal parallel and double recurrence make this the chapter's clearest growth-formula allusion.
